WWF-Turkey is looking for a ‘Dams Policy Officer’ WWF is one of the world’s largest and most experienced independent nature conservation organizations. WWF-Turkey, the national organization of WWF in Turkey, is looking for a ‘Dams Policy Officer’ who will be responsible for carrying out relevant duties for the implementation of WWF-Turkey’s Strategy on Water Infrastructure Schemes. Duty station of the position is Ankara. Requirements:• Must hold a university degree (Graduates of environmental sciences, civil engineering, hydrology, ecology or biology are preferred)
• At least 5 years of relevant work experience
• Knowledge and experience on water infrastructure schemes (dams, hydropower plants, etc) , environmental impact assessment, calculation of environmental flows, river basin management
• Excellent command in English and Turkish
• Driving license and experience
• Dedication to the improvement of civil society and environmental practices
• Managerial skills for guiding the project’s consultants, managing the project’s budget and meeting deadlines
• Excellent communication skills to be able to establish good relations from government institutions to local people
• Ability to work flexible hours
• Ability and willingness to travel -sometimes often and/or for extended periods
• Completed military service (for male candidates)
Duties will include but not be limited to: • Examining the current situation of water infrastructure investments and their environmental impacts in Turkey, preparation of the country profile report.
• Identifying primary actors (decision makers, investors, national and local NGOs) in hydropower sector and defining their approaches
• Dialogue establishing with primary actors in the sector and assessing their basic training needs about “environmental flows and IRBM”
• Following the international and national legal/political developments regarding to hydropower sector
• Participating and providing expertise at different international and national platforms
Working Conditions:The work will be carried out both at Ankara Office of WWF-Turkey and on the field. Field work may involve staying in sub-standard accommodations and working under difficult weather conditions.
